Montevideo, January 5 (RHC)-- The Uruguayan Chapter of the Antifascist International rejected this Saturday the visit to Uruguay by the Venezuelan far-right opposition figure Edmundo González Urrutia, who was a candidate in the Venezuelan presidential elections on July 28, and is scheduled to meet with President Luis Lacalle Pou.

Through a statement, the entity denounced that González Urrutia has been attacking "Venezuelan democracy and institutions, promoting coups, sanctions, military invasion, violence, destabilization, migration, and death" since 2015, under the guise of being a supposed democratic leader.

Likewise, the text recalls that González Urrutia has been denounced for his involvement in the assassination and disappearance of Salvadoran priests during the dictatorship in that Central American country, and currently, he serves the imperialist interests of the United States.

Similarly, the Uruguayan Antifascist International highlights that in the recent presidential elections in Venezuela, González Urrutia disregarded the results of the Electoral Power and called for a coup d'état, supporting the violent actions that took place both in the physical and digital spaces, with the complicity of the hegemonic media.

"Edmundo is wanted by Venezuelan justice, which has issued an arrest warrant on charges including conspiracy, complicity in violent acts, document forgery, money laundering, disobedience to state institutions, incitement to disobey the laws, and conspiracy to commit a crime," emphasizes the text.

The document specifies that Edmundo González's visit to Uruguay is taking place in the context of the South American tour he is undertaking, prior to the inauguration of President Nicolás Maduro on January 10.

In that sense, González Urrutia met the Argentine president Javier Milei the day before, and the meeting with Lacalle Pou in Uruguay is an indicator that "he is seeking international support and has decided to especially visit his ideological and strategic allies," according to the Uruguayan Antifascist International.

The entity calls on the popular movement of the American continent to mobilize against these actions and states its confidence "that the incoming Government will not engage in coup operations, nor in interference in the internal affairs of other nations, and will strive for respect for the right of nations to self-determination."

Over the weekend, the Argentinian Chapter of the Antifascist International rejected President Javier Milei's actions against Venezuela, demanding explanations from his government regarding the illegal entry of Argentine gendarme Nahuel Gallo, who is under investigation by Venezuelan authorities due to his involvement in coup plans.

The document denounces that the Argentine embassy in Caracas, once a place of fraternity, has become "a den of conspirators; and our diplomatic representation, reduced to minimal formalities, had to be exercised by another country."

Similarly, the Costa Rica Chapter of the Antifascist International rejected the provocations of González Urrutia and declared him a persona non grata in that Central American country for his "false" and "deceptive" speech.

"Let us remember that historically, Costa Rica has been used by the United States as a beachhead to attack other nations," the document recalls.
