Washington, April 18 (RHC)-- The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF), a pro-Palestine advocacy organization, has filed a lawsuit in the United States against an Israeli soldier accused of committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
In a Thursday posting on X, the pro-Palestine advocacy organization said it lodged a complaint at a U.S. court against visiting Israeli soldier Yuval Shatel for war crimes and genocide in Gaza.
HRF said it filed the prosecution request under Title 18 of the United States Code sections 2441, 371, and 1091. Section 2441 deals with war crimes, whether committed inside or outside the United States. Section 371 cites statutes on conspiracy to defraud the United States. Section 1091 pertains to the crime and criminal procedures related to genocide.
The posting said Shatel was last seen in the US state of Texas 4 days ago. HRF added that Shatel was now missing. It added, "The risk of flight is real."
The move is the latest legal action taken by the HRF which has been pursuing justice for the Palestinian victims of the Israeli genocide in Gaza. It has lodged lawsuits in various countries against Israeli forces who participated in the genocidal war against the Palestinian people in Gaza. It also filed a complaint against 1,000 Israeli soldiers with the International Criminal Court (ICC).
HRF is named after Hind Rajab, a symbol of the sufferings of the people of Gaza at the hands of the Israeli regime forces.
The Hind Rajab Foundation has filed a lawsuit in Argentina against an Israeli soldier accused of committing war crimes in Gaza who fled Brazil after a case was brought against him there.
Five-year-old Hind had been traveling in a car with her uncle, his wife and their three children, fleeing fighting in the neighborhood of Tel Al-Hawa in Gaza City in January 2024, when they came under the Israeli forces' shelling attack.
Trapped in their shrapnel-ridden vehicle and surrounded by her dead relatives, Hind begged for help from the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS). The two first-responders who reached the scene, Yousef Zeino and Ahmed al-Madhoun, tried to save Hind, but the PRCS soon lost contact with them, along with the little girl.
The bodies of Hind and her relatives were found on February 10th, lying in their car. Just meters away, the burned-out ambulance was found with the remains of the two paramedics who tried to save the little girl in it.
Since the Israeli regime forces launched their genocidal war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, more than 51,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in Gaza.
The ICC in November issued arrest warrants for Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and former minister of military affairs Yoav Gallant "for crimes against humanity and war crimes."
The Israeli regime also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice.
