Quito, November 3 (RHC-EFE) -– A Spaniard wanted by authorities in his home country in connection with a shipment of 7,680 kilos of hashish found on his yacht in 2008 was arrested in Guayaquil, a city in southwestern Ecuador, Ecuadorian officials said.

The suspect, identified only as Antonio Manuel C.G., was captured in Guayaquil by agents from the Interpol office in Quito working with officers from the ULCO organized-crime unit and taken to Quito.

Spanish police and customs agents found the hashish on the suspect's yacht on April 25, 2008.

The suspect was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice issued by Spanish authorities on Oct. 24 on drug charges, the Interior Ministry said.

The suspected drug trafficker will now be the subject of extradition proceedings.

Red Notices are used by Interpol to request the arrest of an individual sought for extradition.
