Tel Aviv, November 10 (RHC)-- Israeli forces have raised the alert level across the occupied territories as Palestinians continue protests over the killing of a young man. Arab students held a demonstration outside Tel Aviv University on Sunday to condemn the killing of Khair al-Din Hamdan. Similar protests were held in other cities including East Jerusalem, Haifa, and Beersheva.

Several protesters, almost half of them minors, were arrested when scuffles broke out between Palestinian protesters and Israeli troops in the village of Kafr Kanna, where the 22-year-old was shot dead.

Israel claims the man was shot on Saturday during an arrest raid, but a video released after the incident shows an Israeli soldier getting out of his car and shooting at Hamdan directly. The fatal shooting sparked angry reactions with thousands of Palestinians taking to the streets.

The Palestinian community in Israel has also launched a 24-hour general strike in protest. Shops, schools, and businesses were shuttered in Arab towns and villages. Tensions have been also running high at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem over the past few weeks.

Palestinians are extremely angry at Tel Aviv's raids as well as its new restrictions on the access of Palestinians to the mosque, considering the move as part of the Israeli regime's plan to Judaize and desecrate the Islamic holy site.
