Geneva, November 13 (RHC)-- The official death toll from the Ebola outbreak in West Africa has topped 5,000, with another 14,000 stricken with the disease. The World Health Organization says there are signs infections have slowed overall in Liberia and Guinea, while the outbreak in Sierra Leone is getting worse.

UN envoy David Nabarro told reporters: "The signs are that in parts of West Africa where the elements are put in place, where communities are fully involved in the response, there is a slowing of the outbreak, fewer cases appearing each week. And that’s, I think, a real source of inspiration. But there are other parts of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea where transmission is still fierce, where there are many new cases emerging each day."
