Bridgetown, November 18 ( NNN-RHC)-- Air traffic controllers at the Grantley Adams International Airport walked off the job early Tuesday complaining about poor working conditions.

The action, which took authorities by surprise, has affected several flights in and out of the airport. However, Corporate Communications Specialist Keith Goddard has confirmed that the airport remains open.

The official also reported that one LIAT fight and one Caribbean Airlines flight were able to successfully depart the airport, as managers stepped in and manned the control tower.

However, several other flights were delayed and up to 10 a.m. the airport’s check in counters were empty. The departures board told the story of the unfolding delays.

It has been reported that the Director of Civil Aviation Kingsley Nelson was meeting the controllers in a bid to break the impasse.
