Managua, November 19 (PL-RHC)-- The number of Chikungunya cases in Nicaragua has risen to 1,021, according to Rosario Murillo, coordinator of the Communications and Citizenship Council.

There has been a decrease in the number of patients registered each day, since 21 were diagnosed with the illness in Managua on Tuesday, she stated. And Rosario Murillo added that medical personnel are in constant contact and need to develop an effective work that allows health authorities to face this type of disease.

Chikungunya is a mosquito-borne disease that causes high fever, headaches and joint pain, which could become chronic and develop disabilities.
