Brasilia, Jan. 1 (RHC)-- Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff was sworn in for a second four-year term Thursday in the capital city of Brasilia, during a ceremony held in the country’s legislative building.

Delegations from 70 countries and major international organizations attended Thursday's inauguration, including Chinese Vice-President Li Yuanchao and US Vice President Joe Biden.

Dilma, as she is affectionately known, has continued the progressive social programs of her predecessor Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, which have begun to turn Latin America’s largest economy away from its past, marred by inequality and exclusion.

The Brazilian ruling Workers' Party (PT) estimated as many as 30,000 people converged on the capital from different parts of the country for Rousseff's inauguration.

Following the official swearing-in ceremony at the Parliament building, President Rousseff was expected to deliver an important speech from the presidential palace outlining her administrations' key policy objectives for the next four years.
