Georgetown, January 21 (RHC-GINA) -- President Donald Ramotar has been invited to become a special representative of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) by the organization's Secretary General, Dr. Ernesto Samper, who is on a visit to Guyana.
During a meeting on Tuesday, at the Office of the President, Dr. Samper stated that their discussions included topics that are currently on UNASUR’s agenda.
He added that with Guyana being an important country in a strategic part of the region, they also discussed social inclusion. This, Samper explained, is a topic in which the president is very interested.
The UNASUR Secretary General also observed that the discussions focused on international projects and how to deal with those of interest at the multi-lateral level.
Samper, a former President of Colombia, was appointed for a two year term in August, 2014 as Secretary General of UNASUR. He also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Carolyn Rodrigues Birkett, on issues of regional importance.
