Lima, April 30 (teleSUR-RHC)-- Peru’s President Ollanta Humala announced during a live address to the nation that Peru had received an addendum sent by the Chilean government to the second diplomatic note in response to the recent spying case.

Humala said he is satisfied with the addendum, in which the government of Chile accepts that spying had taken place and offered its apologies. According to the Peruvian government, naval officers sold information to Chilean navy officials posing as Italian businesspeople.

Peru's minister of defense confirmed that the officials were arrested and are being investigated by a military court.

In his address to the nation the president added, “The government of Peru accepts as concluded the unfortunate situation in which old practices that have been very negative for bilateral relationships are banished … I have ordered the reestablishment of relations with Chile ... starting with the return of the ambassador of Peru to that country.”

Ollanta also stated, “the firm and patriotic position that his government presented in the case of spying allowed the materialization of a satisfactory conclusion.” Chile’s “constructive attitude” must be recognized, he said, adding Michelle Bachelet’s government dialogue will help the countries “continue advancing on the road of cooperation and integration of our peoples.”
