Sao Paulo, August 15 (teleSUR-RHC)-- Brazil might be facing a new wave of violence as 19 people were confirmed dead and seven injured in the area of Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Friday in attacks officials suspect were perpetrated by members of the police.

Officials investigating the case suspect the casualties are related because they happened in a close series of attacks in Sao Paolo suburbs.

The police says it found ammunition from weapons usually carried by Brazilian security forces at the site of the attacks, which suggests at the possibility that its members wanted to settle scores with the victims.

It is suspected that the attacks are connected to the killing of a municipal guard on Wednesday and a militarized policeman who was shot when he was off duty when trying to prevent a robbery at a gas station.

The Secretary of State Security of Sao Paolo said in a press conference that he was concerned the attacks could be the beginning of a new wave of violence if they are indeed connected to the killing of two members of the security forces.

In May 2006, the state of Sao Paulo suffered a wave of attacks on buses, police and police stations that left nearly 300 dead. The attacks were attributed to the First Command of the Capital (PCC), a major organized crime group in the country.
