Guatemala City, August 24 (teleSUR-RHC)-- Guatemalans responded to President Otto Perez Molina's refusal to step down on Sunday by taking to social media and declaring they don't have a president.

The hashtag in Spanish ‪#‎YoNoTengoPresidente was the top trending topic in the Central American country soon after the president took to the airwaves to announce he would stay in power, despite growing calls for his resignation.

Perez Molina said during his speech that he is innocent and is willing to submit himself to the legal process started against him.

Pressure on the president to resign is growing, with thousands regularly demonstrating on the streets calling for him to step down. In the past 24 hours, seven members of Perez's cabinet have resigned over the corruption scandal involving the president.

The president is becoming increasingly isolated as more voices call for his resignation, including the Archbishop of Guatemala Vian Morales and the country's Chamber of Commerce.
