Brasilia, September 26 (PL-RHC) -- Leaders of allied political parties of the Brazilian government reaffirmed their commitment to democracy and their will to fight the attempts of the opposition today in Congress to take President Dilma Rousseff out of office.

The leaders of the Workers' Party (PT), the Brazilian Democratic Movement (PMDB), Communist Party of Brasil (PCdoB), Progressive (PP), Social Democratic (PSD) and Republican Social Order (Pros) signed a manifesto defending the legitimacy of Rouseeff's presidency.

The document, presented to the president, reveals the claims of an elite opposition movement to promote a new form of coup through a political trial against the head of state in Congress.

We unite to defend the legitimacy of the mandate of the leader, won at the polls with the support of 54 million Brazilian voters, said the national president of PCdoB, Luciana Santos.

Another signatory, Gilberto Kassab, the head of PSD, said this document is the first step to demonstrate society the clear intentions of a sector interested in taking advantage of the current economic problems to withdraw Rousseff from the presidency.

We will not allow any disguised form of coups and will make a counter-offensive to expose the opposition, said deputy Jandira Feghali.

The President now knows she is not alone and that she has the support of the major political forces in Brazil, she said.

The call was recorded shortly after the presentation in the Chamber of Deputies of several requests for political trials against the country's president for alleged violation of the law of fiscal responsibility.
