Caracas, November 12 (teleSUR-RHC)-- The Venezuelan government has presented a message of protest to the U.S. government saying that the illegal incursion of a plane from the U.S. Coast Guard in Venezuela's territorial airspace violated international law.

The statement, which included the data and coordinates of the military incursion, demanded an official explanation of the events that led the United States to violate the territorial sovereignty of Venezuela, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

The U.S. Charge d'Affaires to Venezuela, Lee McClenny, acknowledged that the incursion took place when he was handed the official protest statement by the Deputy Minister for North America and Europe Alejandro Fleming.

The aircraft was identified by Venezuelan defense forces on Nov. 8 when it approached the northwest of the country and descended to pass by about seven kilometers from the island Los Monjes.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said he will denounce the new U.S. military threats against his country to regional and international bodies like the United Nations.

This recent incursion is not the first time the U.S. has meddled with Venezuelan sovereignty.

In October, Venezuela’s human rights ombudsman, Tarek William Saab, was interrogated by Mexican authorities on the request of the United States when he arrived in Mexico for a human rights conference.

Last year the former Venezuelan chief of military intelligence was detained upon his arrival to Aruba on U.S. orders. He was framed as being complicit in drug trafficking.

Similarly, Saab was refused entry into the U.S. in 2001 for “political reasons.”
