Caracas, November 28 (RHC)-- The government of Venezuela is taking a number of precautionary measures to protect the power grid against possible interruption by the rightwing sectors during upcoming parliamentary elections on December 6th.

The general manager for Transmission of Venezuela's Electricity Corporation, Nestor Taborda, said a national structure is being put in place to kick in in case of any abnormalcy or breakdown associated with the power lines. He said the program includes the setting of mobile devices that could connect to the system if the need arises.

Yesterday the Venezuelan government denounced the occurrence of sabotage actions against the national electric system, as part of a campaign to destabilize the country ahead of the legislative elections.

Venezuela's Electricy Minister Luis Motta said four attacks had occurred, the first one perpetrated by a group of bikers against the headoffices of the National Electricity Corporation, in the state of Miranda, east of Caracas.

Minister Motta said these incidents have claimed several lives, and noted that in the state of Portuguesa one perpetrator was electrocuted while trying to sabotage the system.
