Caracas, December 16 (teleSUR-RHC)-- Thousands of Venezuelans took to the streets of Caracas and several other cities in Venezuela to show their support to the workers of the state-owned telecommunication company CANTV after it was threatened with privatization by right-wing forces.

Workers and supporters of the station gathered at the company's headquarters in central Caracas and released a statement rejecting the destabilizing attempts by the opposition, which will hold a two-thirds majority of the National Assembly beginning Jan. 5, 2016. 

The rally was attended by the CANTV President and Minister for Science and Technology Manuel Fernandez, who rejected any privatization plan and highlighted that the government of President Nicolas Maduro is committed to building peaceful and constructive policies in the South American country.
       
"Here are the people ready to fight for their rights and always willing to build a country with peace. Today we tell the world that we are a peaceful group of people that will not allow others to snatch up what we have achieved so far,” Fernandez said.

The Venezuelan opposition has said it will take action against the gains achieved by the socialist government, including reforms to the Labor Law, and the Telecommunications Act, seeking to privatize the company and dismiss a huge number of employees.
