Buenos Aires, January 6 (RHC-TelesurTV)-- Argentinean President Mauricio Macri’s administration has announced the dismissal of over 2,000 Senate workers in efforts to remove what he termed as “political appointees” of the government of former President Cristina Fernández.

The decision, which was issued by executive decree, also includes the formation of a new committee that will be in charge of evaluating all future appointments and modifications to the Senate’s worker composition.

Argentinean Vice President Gabriela Michetti has defended Macri’s executive order, arguing that the layoff of Senate workers will help reduce the cost of full-time employees in the Upper House of the country's Parliament.

In response, Director of the Legislative Employees Association, Norberto Di Prospero described the act as “barbaric and affecting the family members of over 2,000 workers,” vowing to carry out actions in order to defend the job security of legislative employees.
