Havana, November 5 (RHC-European Press)-- Companies of Cuba and China have reportedly signed a letter of intent in Havana for the sending of patients to be treated in Cuba and Cuban doctors to work in hospitals in China.

The deal involves the Cuban entity Comercializadora SMC, responsible for the provision of Cuban medical services abroad, and the Chinese tourism company Gujin. The letter of intent was signed during the final day Friday of the 34th Havana International Fair, which showcased new Cuban exports, including goods and services.

Gujin President Shi Hongming said China could both learn from the strength of the Cuban health system and benefit from the medical advances and breakthroughs in Cuban biotechnology, like the drug Heberprot-P, for advanced diabetic foot ulcers, and the CIMAVAX-EGF vaccine, for lung cancer.

Comercializadora SMC Vice President Yamila de Armas said her organization currently offers 250 health-care programs for foreign patients traveling to Cuba for treatment and that their portfolio features seven business modalities, along the lines of medical services, welfare, and research.
