President of Panama Confirms Attendance at Fidel's Memorial Service

Havana, November 29 (RHC)-- Panamanian President Juan Carlos Varela announced his travel to Cuba to attend the memorial service for Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro.

Speaking at a ceremony Monday, marking the 195th anniversary of Panama's independence, Varela said that he was traveling to Cuba to pay the last respects of his people to the Cuban revolutionary leader.

Meanwhile, Panamanian intellectuals, politicians and ordinary citizens alike have arrived at the Cuban embassy in Panama City to sign a book of condolences.

In a similar action in Madrid, Spain, politicians, intellectuals, union leaders, diplomats and ordinary citizens of different nationalities arrived at the Cuban embassy there to sign the book of condolences placed for the death of revolutionary leader Fidel Castro.

Hundreds of people have paid their last respects to Fidel Castro in Spain, among them José María Álvarez, leader of the General Workers' Union of Spain and Rebeca Grynspan, the Secretary General of the Ibero American Conference.
