Havana, July 7 (RHC-Granma)-- The Cuban National Assembly's International Relations Commission issued a statement rejecting as “unacceptable” a document of non-binding nature that was adopted in the European Parliament after approval by the European Union of a Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement with Cuba.
The document seeks to derail the agreement, a first ever deal between the European Union and Cuba that paves the way for a new era of relations between Brussels and Havana.
The Cuban parliamentarians noted that the document “runs counter to the principles of respect, equality and reciprocity” contained in the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement signed by Cuba, the European Union and its member States and which had been approved by the European Parliament on Wednesday.
In their statement, the Cuban deputies emphasize that the disruptive new document stands in contrast to the positive development of Cuba’s relations with the European Commission, the European External Action Service and European Union members in general.
“Some Euro deputies, with an extensive anti-Cuban record, who are opposed to the advancement of relations between Cuba and the European Union” promoted the adoption of this new document, says the Cuban statement, calling “unnecessary, inopportune” and seeking to lecture Cuba on democracy and human rights.
