Havana, August 14 (RHC)-- Cuba has ratified the Convention on Nuclear Safety (CNS). The Caribbean state presented the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) with the formal documentation to that aim.
The Convention on Nuclear Safety is a 1994 International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) treaty that governs safety rules at nuclear power plants in state parties to the Convention. It was adopted in Vienna on June 17th, 1994.
The Caribbean state also ratified its adherence to the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management.
With these latest moves, Cuba has now become State Party 82 to the Convention on Nuclear Safety and State Party 76 to the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management.
Both conventions will enter into force here in Cuba as of October 1st this year.
