Havana, October 9 (RHC)-- Cubans will be marking the 149th anniversary of the “Grito de Yara“ (Cry of Yara), on Tuesday.  That was the uprising which triggered Cuba´s Ten Years’ War, the island´s first war of independence that was led by Carlos Manuel de Cespedes.

The remembrance of that historic date will be held with a solemn rally at the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery in the eastern City of Santiago de Cuba, the resting place of many notable Cubans.

The daily newspaper Granma announced today that the ceremony will mark the official relocation of the graves of Carlos Manuel de Cespedes, Father of the Nation, and Mariana Grajales, Mother of the Nation.

The newspaper noted that as of this anniversary, the Cuban people and foreign visitors will be able to pay tribute to both patriots in a more expedited way, since their graves will be relocated near Jose Marti's Mausoleum, and the round stone where the ashes of the Historic Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, are interred.

The structures of both graves were carefully transfered from their original sites in the cemetery to their new locations.  During the ceremony, a solemn military tribute will be paid to Cespedes and Grajales, as their remains are returned to their tombs.
