Havana, March 2 (RHC)-- In Cuba, eight out of every 10 prosecutors are women and they make up 75 percent of the leadership of the Republic´s General Prosecutor's Office.

This fact was highlighted by Teresa Amarelle Boue, General Secretary of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) in a ceremony held at the organization´s national headquarters to pay tribute to women prosecutors and judges.

Boue praised their performance and commended the alliance they have forged with the FMC.

On behalf of the Prosecutor's Office Luis Lorenzo Palenzuela Páez presented the FMC with a distinction with the image of Vilma Espín Guillois, the founding president of the FMC, and Fidel Castro´s statement on the very important role women play Revolution.

According to Amarelle Boue, the main tasks in which female prosecutors and judges assist the FMC include working with families in the communities, with minors and women offenders, overseeing actions related to children and adolescents, as well as the improvement of legislation on women, and the legal protection of working women.

During the ceremony, the general secretary also described the preparations underway for the 10th Congress of the FMC, which will be held from March 5 to 8, 2019.

According to Amarelle Boue, gender equality, the strengthening of families as the main core of society, contributions from the FMC to the updating of the country's economic model, women´s incorporation into the non-state sector, and preventive health, are some of the issues that will be discussed in preparatory meetings prior to the congress.
