Havana, March 19 (RHC)-- Cuba´s National Electoral Commission (CEN) has disclosed the final results of the general elections held on March 11th.

According to the electoral authority´s report, 85.65 percent of the island´s registered voters cast their ballots -- nearly 7,400,000 people.

The 605 candidates for deputies to the National Assembly of People's Power were elected, since they reached more than half of the valid votes.
After preliminary results were announced on election night, the National Electoral Commission reviewed all data provided by polling stations, like the exceptional registration of voters, assuring that the deceased were excluded from lists and that possible duplications were avoided.

A total of 94.42% of the ballots deposited in the polls were declared valid.

The CEN highlighted the work of the electoral authorities at all levels, the decisive collaboration of the factors in the territories and, especially, the participation of the people, shows palpable recognition of the Cuban Electoral System, which allows the transparent election of those who, for a period of five years, will direct the nation.

Monday´s edition of Granma newspaper includes a special supplement disclosing the election of deputies by each of the Cuban provinces and the percentage of the vote that each candidate garnered.

The new legislature of the Cuban National Parliament will be sworn in next April 19th.
