Brussels, March 28, (RHC) -- Ambassador to the European Union Norma Goicochea signed Wednesday on behalf of Cuba an agreement that fosters cooperation between countries of the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean.

The signing in Brussels was attended by Katja Afheldt, head of the European Union's Division for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, and by Manfredo Fanti, in charge of Regional Affairs.

The agreement falls under the so-called European Union-Latin America and Caribbean International Foundation, established in 2010 by the heads of State and Government of the European Union and those of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, as a tool to promote strategic bi-regional cooperation and partnership.

The Foundation is headquartered in the city of Hamburg, in Germany, with its secretariat at the European Council in Brussels.

The European Union-Latin American and Caribbean Foundation is presently headed by former Dominican Republic president Leonel Fernández.
