Lima, March 9 (RHC)-- Some 170 representatives of Cuban civil society arrived in Peru Sunday to participate in the NGOs Civil Society, the Business and Parliamentarian Forums and other events that will run parallel to the 8th Summit of the Americas.

Cuban sources told the Prensa Latina news agency that 23 representatives are also arriving in Peru to attend the Peoples Summit, an event that will begin on April 10th and close on the 14th, the last day of the two-day Summit of Heads of State and Government.

Upon their arrival, the Cuban delegation laid a wreath at the monument to Heroes of Independence, in downtown Lima.

The Cuban delegation is made up of students, workers, scientists, athletes, religious people, women, farmers, communication workers, artists, intellectuals, economists, lawyers, health professionals and others.

Delegates told the Prensa Latina that in their participation at the various events, they will explain how Cuba is committed to build a prosperous and sustainable socialism, and that they will also voice their solidarity with the Bolivarian people of Venezuela, whose  president, Nicolas Maduro, was excluded from the high-level sessions of the summit.

Representatives from over 2,000 organizations and associations from the Americas that involve different fields of human activities are converging in Lima.

Given the motto of the Summit, ‘Democratic Governance against Corruption’, Cuban delegates will denounce  expressions of this scourge in the economic, political and social fields, which damage the achievement of  sustainable development.
