New York, May 3 (RHC)-- Speaking at the general debate of the 40th Session of the Committee on Information of the United Nations, the Permanent Representative of Cuba to the Organization, Ambassador Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, condemned the ongoing radio and television aggression by the United States Government against the island, which is contrary to the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and various provisions of the International Telecommunication Union.
According to the ambassador, on average over 1600 hours per week were transmitted illegally in 2017 from the United States territory against Cuba through 19 frequencies. She added that this is an attempt to overthrow the constitutional order established by the Cuban people, through continuous illegal radio and television broadcasts, with programming intended for this purpose.
The Cuban diplomat voiced her strong rejection of the use of information and communications technologies in violation of international law, further pointing out that their use must be consistent with the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, in particular with respect for sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of States.
She reaffirmed the role of the Committee on Information in promoting the establishment of a new, more just and equitable world information and communications order aimed at strengthening peace and international understanding, as set out in its founding documents.
