Santa Clara, October 8 (RHC)-- Residents of the central province of Villa Clara paid tribute to the legacy of Ernesto Che Guevara on Monday, 51 years after he was assassinated in Bolivia.

The ceremony marked the beginning of a series of activities honoring Che Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos, running through October 28th.

Monday's ceremony was held in Santa Clara at the mausoleum where the remains of the Heroic Guerrilla and his comrades in Bolivia rest, and was attended by provincial authorities, outstanding students and workers.

In the same activity, 150 elementary school children received a blue handkerchief from their parents, marking their initiation into the José Martí Organization of Pioneers.  Students from the Camilo Cienfuegos Military Academy also performed a guard of honor at the mausoleum dedicated to combatants of the Las Villas Front.

Meanwhile, residents of the municipality of Yaguajay remembered Camilo Cienfuegos and the soldiers of the Las Villas Northern Front, in a ceremony honoring their legacy.
