United Nations, October 16 (RHC)--"Lift the blockade on Cuba!" demanded the island's ambassador to the United Nations, Anayansi Rodríguez, during an event organized Tuesday against the Caribbean country by the United States.

"Revolutionary diplomacy is here, we are the true representatives of the Cuban people,” Rodriguez added.  On Saturday, she had sent a letter of protest to the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, requesting the cancellation of the event, held in contravention of  purposes and principles of the United Nations.

"Cuba yes; blockade no" was the chorus that resonated at the anti-Cuban event held at the chamber of the Economic and Social Council, organized to promote a campaign on alleged political prisoners on the island.

The US representative, Kelley E. Currie, refused to open the microphones to the Cuban delegation to denounce the violation of elementary principles of the UN Charter.  The Cuban diplomats, accompanied by other dozens of people in the room, protested the refusal heckling, chanting and banging their hands on desks demanding the end of U.S. aggressions against Cuba.

The Cuban Foreign Ministry also denounced that members of solidarity with Cuba were expelled from the meeting.

The US move comes just weeks before the General Assembly is scheduled to hold its annual vote on ending the U.S. economic blockade on Cuba, which last year was adopted by a vote of 191 to 2, with only the United States and Israel voting against.
