Havana, January 8 (RHC)-- More than 95,000 children were immunized in Cuba in 2018 with the triple viral vaccine (PRS), according to the United Nations Children's Fund in Cuba (Cuba-UNICEF).

At present, the island’s immunization program covers more than 98% of the population, with 11 vaccines that protect against 13 diseases, including Polio, diphtheria, measles, whooping cough, and rubella.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), immunization prevents deaths, disabilities and diseases, such as cervical cancer, diphtheria, hepatitis B, measles, mumps, pertussis and pneumonia.

The agency points out that 1.5 million deaths could be avoided if world vaccination coverage were improved.
