Meeting of Sustainable Development Goals Action Network underway in Havana

Havana, May 28 (RHC)--The First Working Meeting of the Sustainable Development Goals Action Network began in Havana on Monday.

The event´s purpose is to strengthen cooperation to accelerate progress in Latin America and the Caribbean to meet the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that make up the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations

The two-day encounter is headed by Cuban Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Ileana Núñez, and it will address the implementation of the aforementioned agenda in the region.

Last month, Cuba chaired the third meeting of the Forum of Latin American and Caribbean on the SDGs, held in Santiago de Chile, with the participation of government representatives, international institutions and the academy.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets seek to build on the Millennium Development Goals and complete what these did not achieve. Among its main objectives are the elimination of poverty and hunger, ensure healthy lives and education, gender equality.

It also seeks to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation and affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
