Havana, August 28 (RHC)-- Cooperation between the governments of Cuba and Jamaica has been strengthened with the arrival in Kingston of a group of Cuban educators, who will teach in Jamaican schools.

The teachers will impart subjects related to the exact and natural sciences, as well as the Spanish language, diplomatic sources said.

Both countries began collaboration in general education in November 1997.

Statistics from the Jamaican Ministry of Education indicate that about 400 Cuban teachers and professors offered their services in that country from that date until 2018. So far this year, some 31,000 children and young people have benefited from the work of Cuban teachers.

Cuban educators have served in numerous countries, particularly in the efforts to eradicate illiteracy. For this purpose, Havana made available the educational program Yo, si puedo, which has helped some 10 million people from 130 nations to learn how to read and write.
