Paris, September 16 (RHC)-- The national secretary of the Communist Party of France (PCF), Fabien Roussel, demanded the end of US hostility towards Cuba and advocated for a campaign in Europe to promote that plea.
“From France and Europe we need to demand hands off the island and respect for its people,” he said in an interview with Prensa Latina news agency at the Fête de l'Humanité, where he spoke Sunday along with the leader of the Cuban delegation to the Festival, Abel Prieto.
According to the host leader, the meeting served to learn about Cuba's difficulties as a result of the U.S. blockade and its tightening by U.S. President Donald Trump, with foreseeable negative economic consequences.
Roussel considered as very dangerous that Washington intends to impose its unilateral and extraterritorial policy, which in Cuba’s case has as its most recent example the activation in May of Title III of the Helms-Burton Law, aimed at preventing access to investments.
The French politician reiterated the support of the PCF to Cuba and insisted on the urgency that, in addition to the solidarity of various organizations, at governmental level European Union countries, including France, be forceful when it comes to not aligning with the United States and asking for respect for the sovereignty of peoples.
