Cuban railway system to be overhauled with Russian investment

Havana, October 7 (RHC)-- The president of Russian industry Sinara, Anton Zubikhin, said Sunday in Havana that his company will invest more than 200 million euros in the modernization of Cuban railways.

Zubikhin explained on national television that there is a comprehensive contract for the supply of 75 locomotives, of which 51 are already in the country, and that in 2020 another 19 will arrive.  He said that next year Cuba will receive 80 ferrobuses, of 300 expected to be supplied.

It was also made known that 200 workers from the Cuban Railway Union received training in Russian industries and on the island.

Similarly, Sinara participates in the project for the rehabilitation and modernization of railway infrastructure through a contract worth one 1,800 million euros.

It will cover the country's three main lines, including the central line linking the Cuban capital and the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba.
