Havana, January 22 (RHC)-- The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) is hosting this Wednesday a solidarity event with Bolivia, on the occasion of the anniversary of the creation of the Plurinational State in that country, on January 22, 2009.

The arrival of the Aymara leader, Evo Morales, in January 2006, at the helm of the Movement Towards Socialism, paved the way for the recognition of the rights of the original peoples and the cultural diversity of that Andean-Amazon nation.

The process of democratic transformations, initiated under Morales' leadership, was interrupted last November by a coup d'état.

Cuba has repeatedly expressed its condemnation of the coup, led by extreme right-wing groups under the protection of the United States, as well as its solidarity with former President Evo Morales, now in exile in Argentina.

It also rejects the violence and repression committed against the people of the South American nation, which it describes as an attack on the peace, stability, and legality of the Andean country and Latin America.
