National Telecommunications Organizations from the Caribbean meet in Cuba

Havana, February 4 (RHC)-- The 36th General Assembly of the Caribbean Association of National Telecommunications Organizations (CANTO) is underway in Varadero, Cuba.

Speaking Sunday at the opening ceremony at Melia Internacional Varadero, the Cuban Communications Minister welcomed participants and thanked CANTO for choosing Cuba to host the event on the organization's 35th anniversary.

Jorge Luis Perdomo stressed the willingness of Cuban authorities to continue strengthening and expanding the access to the extensive use of ICts and telecommunications on the island, in correspondence with its economic possibilities, and from a humanistic perspective.

Perdomo also recalled, that despite the US economic blockade on the island, the country is reporting progress in the sector, increasing investments in infrastructure and expanding services.

The event which is running until February 4 is focusing on digital transformation, experiences in disaster recovery, Innovation, and the Internet, cultural identity, and connectivity.

More than 100 members from 32 countries, including operators, companies, and individuals from the sector make up CANTO. The organization's function is to outline information, communication, and technology policies in the region.
