Havana, June 2 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel ratified the idea of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, that the island defends peace and is willing to dialogue, but without conditions.

On his Twitter account, the president quoted Fidel: "Cuba is not an enemy of peace, nor is it reluctant to exchange or cooperate between countries of different political systems, but it has been and will continue to be intransigent in the defence of its principles."

Accompanied by the hastag #SomosContinuidad, the tweet alludes to a phrase from the reflection entitled "The Trojan Horse," through which Fidel Castro reflected on the intense political battle of June 2, 2009 at the Organization of American States (OAS).

At that time, several Latin American leaders demanded Cuba's suspension from that body, which had been in force since 1962, be lifted.  The Caribbean nation, however, did not return to the OAS, which has been spearheading aggression against it since the 1960s and has been labeled by Díaz-Canel himself as an instrument of political pressure by the United States.

The Cuban president has affirmed in various international forums his country's permanent willingness to dialogue without conditions and based on respect, as he did in October 2019 at the XVIII Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Previously, Raul Castro, in his capacity as President of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers, had also expressed the island's willingness to maintain relations of civilized coexistence with the United States, but without renouncing any of its principles.
