Havana, June 15 (RHC)-- The Cuban Ministry of Agriculture received a donation from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to provide protection against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The equipment is intended for workers in the agricultural sector in the central provinces of Villa Clara and Sancti Spíritus, as well as in Granma and Santiago de Cuba, in the east of the island.

The donation, which includes 28,000 bottles of hydro-alcoholic gel, 60,000 masks and 4,000 reusable nasobucos, will be distributed in rural areas benefiting from the Agrocadenas project, which promotes short-cycle food production.

Maribel Gutiérrez, UNDP resident representative in Cuba, said in a press release that it is of vital importance to protect these workers, who guarantee the feeding of the people from the productive base.

According to the text, Cuban authorities will distribute the inputs to more than 70 cooperatives and other state entities in charge of food production, one of the priorities of the government of the Caribbean island.

Since 2014, Agrocadenas has been supporting the development of livestock and grain chains in the largest of the Antilles with funds from the European Union and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
