Havana, August 31 (RHC) Schools in much of Cuba are finalizing details for the return of thousands of students to the classrooms on September 1, under strict hygienic-sanitary measures to avoid the spread of Covid-19.

Five months after the suspension of teaching activities due to the pandemic, classes will resume throughout the country, except in Havana and communities with outbreaks of SARS-CoV-2.

It is estimated that some 355,000 students will remain at home in Havana's 15 municipalities, and La Palma and in Camajuaní and Manicaragua in central Cuba.

Education Minister, Ena Elsa Velázquez, wrote on Twitter the teaching calendar in these territories would resume when their epidemiological situation allows.

Velazquez recently described the results of her tour of 1,500 schools in the country from August 15 to 22, to verify the organization of the educational process and the preparation to implement the hygienic-sanitary measures.

She explained that within the educational centers, the use of face masks, frequent hand washing, and surface disinfection would be mandatory, among other provisions, as well as physical distancing inside and outside the classrooms.

"In Cuba, we will never make a decision that affects the people's health," the minister said in another tweet.

Meanwhile, students that continue with their classes suspended, there will be a TV program that will also start next Tuesday with special content.
