Havana, September 10 (RHC)-- The promotion of new technologies and teleworking are at the center of Cuba's agenda at the Latin American and Caribbean Internet Governance Forum LACIGF, an online event concluding Thursday.

The meeting, held since September 8, debates, among other topics, the Internet's role amid the Covid-19, the digital transformation, its acceleration, the inclusion, and the use of new technologies in a post-pandemic world.

Representatives of the Cuban Union of Informatics (UIC) and other civil society organizations joined the virtual forum, which is celebrating its 13th edition.

Accessing products and services after the pandemic, the opportunities offered by teleworking in the new normality, the training of employees who work remotely, as well as tools and acceptable practices for their use, stand out among the topics discussed by the Cuban representation.

According to the UIC, Cuba promotes the telework modality in this context of a health emergency, as part of its society's computerization.

This practice has made it possible for the economy to move forward, despite the physical isolation and mobility restrictions to avoid the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus's contagion.

On its closing day, the forum will focus its sessions on opportunities for community participation and advocacy on Internet policies in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as on the gender approach to technology policies.

This virtual meeting shortened its schedule due to the rapid expansion of Covid-19 throughout the region.

Face-to-face activities were scheduled to take place in August in Santiago, Chile.
