Havana, October 9 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) for winning the Nobel Peace Prize this year.

Through his Twitter account, the Cuban leader expressed his gratitude to that organization for its exemplary cooperation with the island over many decades.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to the WFP on Friday for its efforts to combat hunger and prevent it from becoming a weapon of war, and its contributions to achieving peace in conflict-affected areas.

According to the website nobelprize.org, the WFP distributes food to refugees and people displaced by war, and supports development projects.

From 1901 to 2019, the Nobel Peace Prize has already been awarded 100 times to 134 personalities and organizations, including 107 individuals with relevant careers and 27 entities.
