Havana, January 4 (RHC)-- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez rejected on Monday the treatment of migrant children at the U.S. border, one of the Donald Trump administration's inhumane policies.

In a message on Twitter, the top Cuban diplomat denounced that these children "suffer a treatment similar to torture, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics."

President Trump's promotion of inhumane policies marks the treatment of thousands of people and the separation of children from their parents," he wrote.

A recent report published by the Official Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics assures that the current administration policies with immigrant children detained in their attempt to enter the country are "compatible with torture."

According to the text, the treatment of children at the border with Mexico 'meets the three criteria of torture', according to the United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment and the Rome Statute.

The prohibition of torture, particularly against children, is part of the Geneva Accords, the document further recalls.

In the last fiscal year, 30,557 minors traveling without the company of a parent or legal guardian, mostly Central Americans, were detained at the U.S. border.
