Havana, May 31, (RHC), – Cuban vice president, Salvador Valdes Mesa, arrived Friday in San Salvador, heading a Cuban delegation to the upcoming inauguration of President-elect, Salvador Sanchez Ceren, this Sunday, June 1st.

The Cuban delegation is also comprised of Rogelio Sierra Diaz, Deputy Foreign Minister and Iliana Lorente Fonseca, Ambassador of Cuba in El Salvador.

The Cuban vice president was welcomed by members of political and social organizations, upon his arrival in the Salvadoran capital.

Hundreds of members of the Salvadorian Coordinating Committee of Solidarity with Cuba and veterans of the Farabundo Marti Liberation Front (FMLN) gathered at the Cristo de la Paz monument, in the road linking the capital and the international airport, to welcome the Cuban official and ratify their support for the Cuban Revolution and people.

Cuba and El Salvador broke off diplomatic relation 1961 during years of military dictatorship in that country. These links were later re-established in 2009, during the government of outgoing President Mauricio Funes.
