Washington, June 4 (RHC) – Parliamentarians from a dozen of countries, religious leaders, lawyers, public officials, artists, activists and other personalities are currently in Washington DC for the 3rd Campaign in Solidarity with the five Cuba anti-terrorist fighters, who were given unfair prison sentences in the United States.

Parallel to the Washington program, many actions have been confirmed in over 40 countries in support of the international campaign called Five Days for the Five, which particularly demands the release of the remaining three Cubans in U.S. jails.

The event runs through June 11th as participants try to put political pressure in favor of a definitive solution to the case of the Cuban anti-terrorist fighters and bring home Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino and Antonio Guerrero.

High on the agenda is a conference entitled A New Era in U.S.-Cuba Relations, which takes into account the increasing claim by different social sectors in favor of the improvement of relations between the two countries.

Those who demand a change in Washington’s policy towards Cuba say that any dialog would not only consider the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade against the island, but also a humanitarian decision about the case of the three Cubans incarcerated in the United States.

Participants will address current cultural exchange under the Obama administration and they will be updated on the Cuban Five case by an expert team. Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez, two of the Cuban Five who have already returned to the island will send messages to the forum, and cultural moments like the screening of a documentary film by Cuban filmmaker Roberto Chile and book launchings will also be part of the Washington agenda.
