International Nurses Day

Havana, May 12 (RHC)—The Cuban Minister of Public Health, Jose Angel Portal Miranda, praised nurses' staff island-wide on International Nurse s Day.

On Twitter, Portal said that nurses make a huge contribution to health and wellbeing. We congratulate the more than 84 thousand Cuban nurses who are on the front line of the battle against Covid-19.

International Nurses Day is an annual observance held on May 12 that commemorates the birth in 1820 of Florence Nightingale, the foundational philosopher of modern nursing.

The event, established in 1974 by the International Council of Nurses, also highlights the essential role nurses fulfill in health care.
