During the meeting, the President recognized a group of negative indicators that contrast
with the priority given to the fight against the disease during the previous year.

Havana, May 21 (RHC) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Friday described the confrontation with COVID-19 as a challenging problem and called for better organization and demands,  given the country's current epidemiological scenario.

During a meeting of the government group for the control of the disease, the President assured that the context "demands a lot of control and precision."

The head of State recognized a group of negative indicators that contrast with the priority given to the fight against the disease since the detection of the first cases.

He mentioned the instability shown by a group of provinces, the increase in institutional events, and the numbers of severe and critical patients and confirmed elderly or children.

The President noted that after so much effort and achievements over the last year, after having learned how to deal with the disease,  it was unacceptable to go backward.

The dignitary called on the government system, the health system, other agencies, and the family to organize the work with precision and rigor.

For his part, the Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal, said that, since the first week of December 2020, Cuba maintains an upward trend in diagnosing cases, characterized by a high level of dissemination in all territories of the country.

He added that the provinces with the worst indicators are Havana, Santiago de Cuba, and Matanzas.

"A marked growth in the transmission is seen in the current year, which increases progressively from month to month: between those confirmed in December 2020 and those of April this year, the jump amounts to 753 percent," the minister noted.
