Belfast, June 12 (RHC) At the top of Black Mountain in Belfast, a message of solidarity with Cuba was in plain sight. Solidarity activists from Cuba Solidarity Forum Ireland and Cuban residents unfurled the world's biggest Cuban flag to illustrate Ireland's unbowed opposition to the U.S. blockade ahead of the U.N. vote on June 23.

In a video message on the site, posted on Twitter, Sein Fein MP Chris Hazzard recalled that for some 60 years, Cuba had fought the criminal U.S. blockade designed to starve its people and change its government, an attempt that has been a complete failure.

Before displaying the flag, Cuba Solidarity Forum Ireland tweeted: "U.S. President Biden takes pride in his Irish roots. Still, he should understand the Irish people have deep solidarity with Cuba, an unbreakable bond."

Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel described the actions as a beautiful and moving gesture of solidarity from the children of an admirable, dignified people and Cuban patriots currently away from the homeland.

A giant Cuban flag, the largest ever made in the world, 46 meters long by 23 meters wide, was placed on the side of Black Mountain, one of the hills surrounding the city of Belfast.

Next to the flag, in giant letters, there was a strong and clear message to President Joe Biden participating in the G7 Summit: "UnblockCuba."

In Belfast, it is a tradition to post political and social messages on the slopes of Black Mountain, as happened just a few weeks ago with the most recent Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.
