Washington, Jun 28 (RHC)-- The caravan that began its journey this Sunday from Miami, Florida, to the U.S. capital, Washington D.C., constitutes an unprecedented action in the U.S. against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba.

Carlos Lazo, the coordinator of the Bridges of Love project, said in exclusive statements to Prensa Latina that one of the main objectives of this campaign is to demand that President Joe Biden fulfill his campaign promises.

'Those of us who voted for Biden demand that he review the hostile policy pursued by his predecessor, Donald Trump against Cuba, and be consistent with those of us who voted for him in the hope that he would make a substantial change in the policy towards our country,' he said.

Lazo reiterated that he and his followers would travel some two thousand kilometers to Washington D.C. On July 25, they will gather at Lafayette Square in front of the White House, where citizens usually gather to express demands to the U.S. government.

He explained that the plan throughout the tour is to pass by churches, cultural centers, and congressional offices 'to express our desire that Biden reopens the embassy in Havana and that Americans can travel to Cuba, that there be bridges of love between the two peoples'.

The participants will demand, among other measures, the reopening of consular services at the U.S. embassy in Havana and the lifting of the ban on sending remittances to the island.

According to the coordinator of Bridges of Love, the participants in this caravan will also demand from the Biden administration the resumption of the family reunification plan suspended by Republican ruler Donald Trump in 2017.

The activists also intend to continue collecting funds to purchase syringes to support the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 in Cuba because Washington's siege limits the access of health authorities to medical supplies.
