Cuban health workers deployed in Qatar to confront COVID-19 are back on the island.

Havana, August 30 (RHC)-- After more than a year of facing the health emergency caused by Covid-19 in Qatar, 346 collaborators of the Henry Reeve contingent specialized in confronting disasters, and serious epidemics returned to Cuba on Sunday.

Upon their arrival at Havana´s José Martí International Airport, they were welcomed by President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, who congratulated them for their efficient work in the Middle Eastern country.

Héctor Roche Molina, Licentiate in Nursing, and Juan Emilio Velázquez Fernández, a specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine, led the brigades in Qatar and highlighted the effort of its members, who assumed from the first moment a strong intensity of work in the red zone in field hospitals and other facilities.

Thanks to the 52 doctors, 292 nurses, and two health technology graduates from 15 Cuban provinces, 836,855 procedures were performed in Qatar, 154,000 patients were treated, and 3,411 lives were saved.

Cuba and Qatar have accumulated more than three decades of uninterrupted diplomatic relations, and their cooperation is evident both in the field of bilateral relations and in multilateral forums.
