Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Mekdad

Damascus, Sept 28 (RHC) Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Mekdad reiterated today before the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly his country's condemnation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba and described it as economic terrorism.

We demand the immediate cessation of all forms of economic terrorism exercised by the United States and its allies against Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, Belarus, Nicaragua and the Democratic Republic of Korea, said the Foreign Minister.

He denounced that some Powers used the Covid-19 pandemic as a means to create political accusations against other countries and the worst part, is the imposition of more unilateral coercive economic measures on nations and peoples, simply because they are not in the orbit of those Powers.

These sanctions bring suffering and death to nations such as Syria, Cuba, Iran, Sudan, Venezuela and Yemen, because they are imposed in the name of human rights.

But the reality is that they deprive people of their basic rights, including health, food and the right to life itself, the Foreign Minister said.

He regrated that the United States persists in its criminal policy of blockade and sanctions, despite their catastrophic effects and ignoring all calls by the United Nations and humanitarian organizations to lift or relax these measures.

On the other hand, the head of the Syrian diplomacy said that his country supports the approach of Russia and China to preserve international law, guarantee security and stability, achieve development in the world and stop the attempts of hegemony and foreign intervention policies of some nations.
